KENOSHA, Wisc. - The Embry-Riddle men's cross country team finished a school record high seventh place at the 2007 NAIA National Championships on Saturday, November 17, topping four institutions that were projected ahead of the team .
In 40-45 degree weather the Eagles were facing their coldest race of the season, but were able to put all of their points-scoring runners in the first 100 point-scorers to earn 293 points for a seventh place finish. It was the teams highest finish in the history of the sport at ERAU, as well as the third straight year competing in the National Championhships. In 2006 the squad finished 18th among the 25 teams participating.
The top finisher for ERAU was sophomore Nick Gehlsen who placed 57th overall (42 points) in a time of 25:54.8. The next three finishers for ERAU were just seconds behind Gehlsen, challenging each other until the end. Junior Stuart Patterson crossed at 26:03.8 (74th, 51 points), sophomore Evan Clay finished in 26:04.5 (76th, 53 points) and freshman Russell Snyder came in at 26:05.5 (77th, 54 points). The final point scorer for the Eagles was freshman Horacio Maysonet who crossed the line in 26:31.3 in 132nd place earning the team its final 93 points. Both freshman Henry Melius and Cody Hill represented Embry-Riddle at the National Championships coming in at 199 (27:10.9) and 200 (27:12.0), respectively.
This event concludes the Eagles Cross Country season.
