KENOSHA, Wis. — The Savannah College of Art and Design cross country teams sent two runners – one male and one female – to the NAIA National Championships Saturday (Nov. 17).
It was the fourth consecutive year the Bees have sent a least one women’s runner to the national championship and the second consecutive season for the men.
In the men’s competition, sophomore Tyler French nearly set a college record in the 8K event on the Wayne E. Dannehl Cross Country Course. The Antrim, N.H., native crossed the finish line in a time of 27:09.4 – 1.4 seconds off the record (27:08) held by former runner Adam Stockholm. French finished in 197th place overall out of 258 runners. Azusa Pacific University’s Aron Rono won the race with a time of 23:52.1.
Junior Jordan Kaltwasser finished 250th out of 268 in the women’s 5K race. The junior from Germantown, Tenn., completed the event in a time of 21:01.8. Azusa Pacific’s Jaime Canterbury won the race with a time of 17:10.8.
“The true measurement of our program is the progression you make (during the season),” said cross country coach Michael Sergi. “Jordan and Tyler exemplified that progression. It was a great race and I’m looking forward to coming back with the entire team next year.”
