Seahawks, Eagles Take Conference Titles
Lake Wales, Fla. – Northwood University men’s golf team and Embry Riddle’s women’s golf team captured The 2009 Sun Conference Golf Championship, Monday, April 20th, 2009, in Lake Wales, Florida, at the beautiful Lake Wales Country Club.
After the first two rounds for the men, the Bobcats led the way shooting a 582, as the Warriors and Bee’s followed with a 596, and a 598. Individually Marico Chavez from Northwood took a six stroke lead after shooting a 73-67-140. Trailing Chavez in a three way tie for second was Tom Gamble from Webber shooting 73-73-146, Je Her from, St. Thomas, also shooting 73-73-146, and Jeff Ivall from Northwood, shooting 75-71-146.
As the women finished their first round, Embry Riddle led the way by two strokes over Northwood, coming in at 314 and the Seahawks with 316. Finishing third on the day was South Carolina Beaufort with 324 on the day. Leading the first round as an individual shooting a 75 was Northwood’s own Emelie Anderson. Sophie Henke from USCB followed with 76, and a three way tie for third shooting a 77 was Kelsey Klatt from SCAD and Anna Haller from Embry Riddle.
With a shotgun start and the tournament slowly coming to an end, the men of Northwood took the title as the 2009 Sun Conference Champions and Chris Saltmarch, receiving the Coach of the Year, as a team shot a 292-290-303 for an overall 885. Coming in second was Webber International with 295-301-296-892; while SCAD took third shooting 299-299-300-898.
The Lady Eagles held their own and the lead, as they walked away with their fifth consecutive conference title and Coach of the Year going to Maria Lopez

As a team the Eagles shot 314-314 for a 628 finish. Following the Eagles by four strokes was Northwood University shooting 316-316-632, and taking third was USCB, shooting 324-317-641.
Player of the year for the men went to Jaren Goode, from Webber International shooting 74-74-70 for a 218 finish. For the women after a tie-breaker round, Albane Flamant from Embry Riddle received Player of the Year, shooting 78-76 and a 154 finish.
Making the All Conference team for the men where: Jaren Goode (WIU), Tom Gamble (WIU), Je Her (STU), Marico Chavez (NU), Jeff Ivall (NU), and Don Sciotto (ERAU)
For the women: Albane Flamant (ERAU), Anna Haller (ERAU), Katie Decker (NU), Ceci Rezk (NU), Emelie Anderson (NU), Katina Ruest (SCAD), Kelsey Klatt (SCAD), and Sophie Henke (USCB).
Northwood University and Embry Riddle University will both get the automatic bid for the NAIA National Tournament, May 19th, 2009 in Silvis, Illinois.
