Sand Shark Golfers Tied for Third at Nationals

SILVIS, IL--The tough competition and even tougher course and conditions, have made this first round critical for the Sand Sharks who got out to an early lead finishing in third place of the morning group and holding their third place spot through the day. The Sand Sharks, who are the first team in the history of USCB athletics to make the Nationals finished with a team total of 279 (+13) good enough to hold them tied for third place, just behind Oklahoma Christian (291 +7), Malone (293 +9), and tied with Oklahoma Baptist University (297 +13).

George Thacker leads the Sand Sharks even (71) through the first round and tied for fourth, followed by Chris Lane who is three over (74) and tied for seventeenth. Jon Pannone closely follows his teammates finishing four over (75)for the day. Next is Reed Howard coming in with of first round of 77, six over par. Rounding out the Sand Shark field is freshman Jack Bingham with and 84, thirteen over the par 71 course.

Savannah College of Art and Design, the first of the Sun Conference competition sits six spots behind the Sand Sharks with a score of 302 (+18). SCAD is closely followed by conference champions Northwood University who finished in the twelfth position with a 305 (+21), in the thirteenth spot were the Webber International Warriors with a first round total of 309 (+25).
