Wildcats Win Men's Golf Title
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. – The Johnson & Wales men’s golf team shot a 286 in the final round to claim the 2010 Sun Conference tournament title. The 11th-ranked Wildcats scored an 862 (294-282-286) to earn an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championship at TPC at Deer Run in Silvis, Ill., May 18-21.
When the dust settled after the final round, there was a three-way tie for first between St. Thomas’ Omar Tejeira and Johnson & Wales’ Chris Hawley and Greg Belsito who each shot 213 in the 54-hole tournament. Tejeira won the ensuing playoff to claim individual medalist honors, leaving Hawley and Belsito in a tie for second.
Third-ranked Savannah College of Art and Design was second (288-288-289=865), while Webber International (296-282-289=867), No. 6 South Carolina-Beaufort (290-292-288=870) and St. Thomas (301-292-283=876) rounded out the top five.
