Royals Softball Crack Top 25
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Warner University softball team cracked into the fifth edition of Top 25 of the NAIA Softball Coaches’ Top 25 Poll, the national office announced Tuesday. After receiving votes in the preseason poll, the Royals totaled 178 points to move to No. 24 in the country.
The Royals improved to 22-12-1 with a 7-2 conference mark after winning two out of three games from then-No. 15 Savannah College of Art and Design last week. The Bees defeated the Royals in the first game of the conference series 4-1 before the Royals bounced back to sweep the Saturday doubleheader 4-3 and 4-1. With the sweep, the Royals took sole possession of first place in The Sun Conference standings.
This season marks the third consecutive season the Royals have earned a spot in the Top 25. This season proves to be more special as the Royals carry a squad loaded with underclassmen (eight freshman and five sophomores on a 21-man roster) and boasts one of the toughest schedules in their recent history; their opponents thus far have a combined record of 286-229-3. Warner has played five teams that have been ranked in the Top 25 this season and three teams that are currently in the Top 25 and three teams that are currently receiving national votes: No. 2 Lee University (Tenn.), No. 3 Bethel College (Ind.), No. 17 Auburn University-Montgomery (Ala.), RV SCAD, RV Union University (Tenn.), and RV Davenport University (Mich.)
