Four Sun Conference Schools Earn National Championship Bids
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Four Sun Conference schools will be represented at the 2010 NAIA Women's Golf National Championship in Rapids, City, S.D. Embry-Riddle, Northwood, SCAD and USCB will all take part in the 25-team event scheduled for May 25-28 at Meadowbrook Golf Course.
NAIA No. 1 Embry-Riddle is making their ninth appearance at the national tournament with a second-place finish coming in 2008. The Eagles, who won The Sun Conference Championship, will be led by Sun Conference Golfer of the Year Carrie Rowe. ERAU received an automatic bid with their conference championship.
Northwood, ranked 11th in the final poll, is one of four teams going to the National Championship that has won the event previously. The Seahawks claimed the tile in 2003 and will be traveling to South Dakota as an at-large team.
The 12th-ranked Bees are making their seventh consecutive trip to the national tournament. SCAD will try to record their seventh top-10 finish in 2010; they finished 13th last season at the national tournament.
USCB ended the season as the No. 6 team in the nation, they were one of the ten teams to earn at-large bids to the National Championship. The Sand Sharks finished second at The Sun Conference Championship, just behind Embry-Riddle.
The 129-player championships field is comprised of 14 automatic qualifying teams from NAIA affiliated conferences/unaffiliated groupings and 10 at-large selections, which are determined using the final Top 25 rating released on May 7. Pairings for the event will be announced Friday at 3:30 p.m. CDT.
