NAIA Announces Qualifiers for 2010 Men's Golf National Championship
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics has announced the qualifers and pairings for the 2010 NAIA Men's Golf National Tournament. The Sun Conference had three teams received invites, as well as an individual qualifier.
Johnson & Wales, Savannah College of Art & Design and South Carolina-Beaufort all received bids to the 29-team, 156-player event being held at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill. The event will run from May 18-21, 2010.
Johnson & Wales earned The Sun Conference's automatic bid by claiming the 2010 Tournament Championship. The Wildcats are one of five teams to qualify that have won a national championship.
SCAD was granted an at-large bid to the national tournament. Tom Hayes, The Sun Conference Co-Player of the Year, will help lead the Bees. It will be the fifth time in the past six seasons the Bees have qualified for the national tournament.
The Sand Sharks of USCB also earned an at-large berth to the tournament. USCB is ranked No. 10 in the final NAIA Coaches' Poll.
Omar Tejeira of St. Thomas qualified as an individual by winning The Sun Conference Tournament. Tejeira won a playoff hole in the conference tournament to claim his spot as one of the 11 individual qualifiers.
