MOBILE, Ala. – The Savannah College of Art and Design easily defeated Tennessee Wesleyan College 8-1 in the first round of the NAIA Women’s Tennis National Championship Tuesday (May 18) morning at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The Bees, who were ranked No. 12 in the final NAIA Top 25 poll, improved to 11-3 while the Bulldogs, who won the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament, ended their season at 6-11. SCAD will face No. 5 seed Vanguard University, which received a first-round bye in the tournament, in a 9 a.m. Central time second-round match Wednesday (May 19).
The Bees, who are making their sixth consecutive trip to the national tournament, jumped out to a 3-0 lead as they swept all three doubles matches. SCAD clinched the victory with straight-set wins by #Stephanie Gula# and #Annie Chastain# at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
