DECATUR, Ala. – Savannah College of Art and Design scored in every inning but one as the Bees ended the 2010 season with a 9-0 (six innings) victory over Notre Dame College (Ohio) in pool-play action at the NAIA Softball National Championship Monday (May 24) afternoon at Wilson Morgan Park.
The Bees ended the season with a 36-17 overall record and they improved to 1-2 in Pool B competition while the Falcons fell to 25-27 and 0-3. Neither team will advance out of pool play to the double-elimination portion of the tournament.
SCAD took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a throwing error by Notre Dame. The Bees came back with three more runs in the second as #Carleigh Shannon# drew a bases-loaded walk against Falcon starter Christina Hutchison (6-6). #Kristen Curette# added an RBI single while #Kasey Keown# contributed a run-scoring single to center.
After a scoreless third, the Bees scored twice in the fourth on #Courtney Mienkina#’s double to left-center. SCAD added a run in the fifth on a Shannon RBI double to left and then closed out the game early an inning later on a single to center by #Jessaca Spears#.
#Sam White# (13-7) notched her second shutout and 11th complete game of the season as she scattered nine hits and struck out two.
