RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Savannah College of Art and Design moved up one spot to 15th place after the third round of the NAIA Women’s Golf National Championship Thursday (May 27).
The Bees, who are ranked No. 12 in the NAIA, shot 331 on the par-72, 6,000-yard layout on the Meadowbrook Golf Course to stand at 997 after 54 holes. Fourth-ranked University of British Columbia leapfrogged ahead of second-round leader and five-time defending champion Oklahoma City University for the team lead. The Thunderbirds carded a round of 311 to stand at 923 after three rounds in the 25-team tournament. The No. 2-ranked Stars shot 314 and is a single stroke behind at 924.
California Baptist University’s Nathalie Silva leads in the 128-player field with a score of 225 after registering a round of 75 and holds a two-stroke lead over OCU’s Laura Jones.
#Nikki Stewart# remains the top golfer for the Bees, who are making their seventh consecutive appearance in the championship, as she is tied for 20th place at 236 after a 79. #Mary-Michael Burns# is tied for 59th place at 248 after an 86 while #Andrea Perez# is tied for 79th after an 82 put her at 255. #Lovisa Emanuelsson# is tied for 96th place with a score of 264 after an 84 while #Amelie Mogard# shot a 90 and is tied for 101st at 267.
The 72-hole tournament is being hosted by the Rapid City Convention & Visitors Bureau. The field will be cut to the top 17 teams and 40 individuals (including ties) after today’s round.
