ERAU's Walls Earns Fourth All-American Status on Day Two of Outdoor Nationals
MARION, Ind. -- Senior Howard Walls notched his fourth All-American status as an Eagle after placing fifth overall in the men's 110m hurdle finals event at the 2010 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field National Championship on Friday, May 28, moving the men's team score up to nine.
Walls kicked off the day's action for the Blue and Gold by advancing to the finals from the semifinals after qualifying fifth in 14.40.
Freshman Samia Adan raced her way to an 11th place finish in the 800m, just two spots short of qualfying for the finals, while Mallory Jackson ran a strong race in the 800m as well, finishing just shy of a personal record in 1:53.25.
Flo Vazquez wrapped up action for the women as she put forth a valient effort in the 5000m, but was unable to pull through to the final round.
Evans Kirwa and Russell Snyder represented the Eagles in the men's 5000m. Kirwa cruised his way into the finals, but Snyder was not as fortunate as an injury took him out of the race.
Kirwa will race in the final round of the 5K tomorrow evening at 5:35 p.m.
The men's and women's 4x400m relay teams fell short of advancing to the finals, but a strong performance from the men's team landed the team of Brian Laing, Laquardo Newbold, Kevin Bray, and Sam Vazquez into the ERAU record books, as they bested the record by three seconds finishing just one second short of qualifying in 3:13.56.
The Eagles will compete in the final day of action tomorrow on the campus of Indiana Wesleyan, as Nick Gehlsen and Alex Frazier will commence the day's events as they run in the marathon which is set to begin at 6 a.m. The men's pole vault will feature Chris Harter who enters the event ranked third nationally and Spencer Wade who is currently ranked 10th nationally. The day will wrap up with Kirwa's performance in the 5K.
