ERAU Women's Golfers Earn National Honors
KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Members of Embry-Riddle's women's golf team continued to receive accolades for their accomplishments in 2009-10 as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics announced its All-America and Daktronics-NAIA All-America Scholar Athlete teams on Monday.
Seniors Carrie Rowe and Grace Jeong headlined ERAU's list of honorees as they were both named first team All-America selections. Rowe became the first student-athlete in conference history to earn league Player of the Year honors at two different schools after earning that distinction at Webber International in 2008 and again with the Eagles in 2010. A three-time Sun Conference Golfer of the Month, Rowe shot a 75 in the first round and fired an ERAU school record 68 in the second round to earn individual medalist honors at the 2010 Sun Conference Championship.
Jeong finished just two strokes behind Rowe at the conference tournament after carding a one-over 145 over 36 holes. She posted five top 10 overall finishes throughout the season and closed out her senior campaign with a team-best ninth place performance at the NAIA National Championships.
Freshman Bea Serra earned honorable mention All-America recognition. She was the Eagles No. 2 finisher at nationals and posted top 10 finishes at the Start-2-Finish Classic (Feb. 7-8) and The Sun Conference Championship after joining the Eagle lineup in January.
Senior Albane Flamant and junior Teresa Sandri were recognized for the achievements in the classroom as All-America Scholar Athletes. Monday's honor capped off an impressive list of accomplishments for Flamant who enjoyed a very successful career with the Eagles and played an integral role in ERAU's last four conference titles. The 2009 Sun Conference Golfer of the Year, Flamant was tabbed as the 2010 Sun Conference Champion of Character Award recipient and was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team. She completed her undergraduate degree in Communication at Embry-Riddle in May with a 3.9 cumulative grade point average.
Sandri competed in seven tournaments for the Eagles with an 81.8 average and closed out her second season wearing the Blue and Gold with a 3.6 GPA in Aerospace Engineering.
Embry-Riddle women's golf earned its seventh consecutive Sun Conference title and achieved the first No. 1 national ranking in program history before capping off the season with a fourth place finish at the national tournament.
