DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The Embry-Riddle volleyball team was selected as the favorite to win the 2010 Sun Conference title, the conference office announced Thursday. The panel of league coaches picked the Eagles with five first place votes and 77 points overall.
Embry-Riddle finished the 2009 season with a perfect 18-0 record in conference play, the second consecutive conference regular season crown for ERAU. The Eagles compiled a 24-8 overall record on the season, falling in The Sun Conference tournament championship match to Savannah College of Art of Design, 3-0.
After winning the conference tournament last season, SCAD (28-8, 16-2 TSC in 2009) was picked to finish second with 70 points. The 2010 regular season kicks off tomorrow when Embry-Riddle takes on Simpson and Southern Oregon in the Paul Elliot Invitational hosted by Southern Oregon. The first Sun Conference matchup will be September 3rd when SCAD visits St. Thomas. The 2010 TSC volleyball tournament is scheduled for November 12-13 in Savannah, Georgia, with SCAD serving as the tournament host.
