Embry-Riddle Picked to Capture 2010 Women's Soccer Conference Crown

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Sun Conference has announced the coaches' preseason poll for women's soccer and the Embry-Riddle Eagles are picked to win the 2010 Sun Conference title. The poll was voted on by The Sun Conference women's soccer coaches.

The Eagles, who finished 14-6 last season and 8-1 in The Sun Conference, were co-champions with Northwood in 2009 during the regular season before besting the Seahawks 2-1 in the conference tournament title game. ERAU received six first-place votes en route to 54 total points.

Northwood advanced to the final site of the 2009 NAIA National Tournament and finished the season ranked No. 13 overall. The Seahawks tallied 47 total points with one first-place vote to place second on the preseason poll.

Savannah College of Art and Design finished fourth in The Sun Conference last season, and the Bees are picked to place third in 2010. SCAD received 45 total points, just two behind Northwood.

Webber International (40) and Southeastern (34) finish out the top five. The Warriors finished third in 2009 under Coach Jami Hagy while the Fire went 4-5 in conference play to place sixth overall.

St. Thomas (32), Warner (23), Florida Memorial (19), Ave Maria (13) and Johnson and Wales (8) round out the final spots.

Six teams will qualify for The Sun Conference tournament with the top two seeds receiving byes into the semifinals. The No. 6 and No. 3 seeds will meet on Nov. 4 while the No. 5 and No. 4 seeds meet-up on the same day. The semfinals are set for Nov. 6 with the championship game scheduled for Nov. 12. All games will be played at the higher seed's facility.
