SCAD has 14 teams honored by the NAIA as Scholar Teams

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The NAIA has recognized 14 Savannah College of Art and Design programs as Scholar Teams.

A record total of 857 teams earned at least a 3.00 grade point average (on a 4.00 scale) during the 2009-10 academic year. SCAD had the fourth-most teams recognized by the NAIA. Biola University and Hastings College had the most teams – 16 – represented by an institution, while Concordia
(Neb.) University had 15.

SCAD had the most teams honored among the 12 The Sun Conference institutions. The Bees finished ahead of Embry-Riddle (Fla.) University (8), St. Thomas (Fla.) University (7), Webber International University (4), Johnson & Wales (Fla.) University (1) and Northwood (Fla.) University (1).

Leading the way for SCAD was the women’s golf team with a 3.55 team grade point average last year. The men’s golf, volleyball, women’s cross country and women’s track and field teams each recorded 3.47 GPAs in 2009-10.
Women’s swimming tallied a 3.31 GPA followed by women’s soccer (3.29), men’s swimming (3.27), women’s tennis (3.20), men’s tennis (3.13), baseball (3.10), men’s soccer (3.10), men’s cross country (3.01) and men’s track and field (3.01) teams.

Besides the classroom, SCAD was also very successful on the playing fields in 2009-10. SCAD, which finished in 25th position in the final Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup NAIA standings, had 10 different teams ranked in their respective national rankings this past season and had eight different teams compete at their respective national championship.
