WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Sun Conference announced to 2011 men’s basketball All-Conference team at the Final Four banquet hosted by Northwood on Thursday. Northwood’s Rollie Massimino and Jonathan Dunnn headlined the All-Conference roster with Massimino being tabbed as the league’s Coach of the Year and Dunn taking home Player of the Year honors.

Massimino led the Seahawks to their fourth conference regular season title in five seasons. Northwood ran the table in conference play at 16-0 and after beginning the year ranked No. 10 in the NAIA National ranking, the Seahawks have occupied the top spot in the national poll for the last two weeks. The Seahawks head into to the conference semifinals with a 29-2 overall record and are currently riding a 22-game winning streak.

In his first season with the Seahawks, Dunn was chosen as The Sun Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week six times. He has 743 total points on the year, which tops the league and puts him at No. 2 in that category nationally. He is averaging a league-best 24 points per game, which ranks third in the nation, and he is among the league’s top five in three-pointers made (1st, 80) field goal percentage (5th, .512) and free throw percentage (3rd, .830). Dunn is also shooting 41.5 percent from beyond the arc.

For the second year in a row, Embry-Riddle senior David Butler was tabbed as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. Averaging 17.4 points per contest, Butler is second in the league in total rebounds 294) and rebounds per game (9.5), and is tied for second in double-doubles with 12. The senior also leads the nation in total blocks with 116 and blocks per game with 3.7.

Junior transfer Malcolm Campbell of Warner grabbed Newcomer of the Year honors. Campbell currently ranks among the top five in the league in field goal percentage (1st, .602), scoring (5th, 16 ppg), total points (5th, 447) and blocks (1.7 bpg). He is averaging 7.4 rebounds per game and has seven double-doubles on the year.

Freshman of the Year honors went to Johnson & Wales’ Craig Wong. A native of Davie, Fla., Wong closed out his first campaign with the Wildcats averaging 14.8 points per game, including a season-high 34 points against Ave Maria to lead all freshman scorers in the conference. He led his team in assists, averaging 2.6 per game and was fourth on the squad in rebounding (3.4 rpg).

Roderick Davis was selected as the Cazzie Russell Champions of Character Award winner. Named for the former head coach of the Savannah College of Art and Design men’s basketball program, the award is voted on by the league coaches and goes to the player who best exemplifies the Champion of Character core values, including academics, community service, sportsmanship and on-campus involvement.

A senior at Florida Memorial, Davis has played in 14 games for the Lions this season, and his head coach Kenny Bellinger notes that although Davis has not garnered any on-court accolades, his value as a leader has been invaluable. A two-time Academic All-Conference selection majoring in Finance, has volunteered with reading and tutoring programs at local elementary schools.

Tournament play resumes at 5 p.m. on Friday when second-seeded Embry-Riddle faces No. 6 Warner followed by No. 1 Northwood against No. 4 Florida Memorial at 7 p.m. The tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NAIA Division II National Tournament in Point Lookout, Mo., Mar. 9-15.
