DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.—St. Thomas’ Jhonathan Rico and SCAD Savannah’s Richard Langthonre headlined the 2012 Sun Conference Men’s Soccer All-Conference team, which was announced by the league office Thursday night at the conference banquet being held at St. Thomas University. Rico was selected as the Player of the Year, while Langthorne garnered Defensive Player of the Year honors.

A senior forward from Cali, Colombia, Rico was also tabbed as both the offensive and overall Player of the Year after leading the St. Thomas Bobcats to the regular season conference title. Rico played in 17 games and leads the team in goals (15), assists (4) and points (34). The senior is also ranked 22nd in the NAIA in goals per game (.880) and 29th in total goals. He has taken 66 shots (32 on goal) and recorded four game-winners. Rico was also named the Sun Conference Offensive Player of the Week three times in 2012.

Langthorne, a 6-3 senior, anchored the Bees’ defense that tied for the conference lead in goals allowed per game (1.0), shutouts per game (.40) and total shutouts (4.0). The Newton Aycliffe, England native has also been a threat on the offensive end, tallying four points on two goals in 11 games. Langthorne is the first SCAD Savannah defender to win the award.

Northwood senior defender Victor Lindstrom was the recipient of the 2012 Sun Conference Champion of Character Award. The Malmo, Sweden native played in nine games for the Seahawks and garnered three goals on the year. Lindstrom came back from a two-year recovery from a horrific injury and was a vital part of the team both on and off the field. The senior’s contributions extend well beyond the soccer field and are more than worthy of this award.

Coach of the Year honors went to Southeastern’s Drew Stacey. Along with picking up his 100th career victory, Stacey continued his excellent work in his ninth season with the Fire. He helped the Fire to a 7-7-1 overall record, 3-6-1 in league play.
