Bobcats Down Warriors, 8-3
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The third-seeded St. Thomas Bobcats became the first higher-seeded team to win in the 2012 Sun Conference Baseball Tournament when they downed fourth-seeded Webber International, 8-0 in the nightcap on Tuesday evening. STU advances to play Warner in tomorrow night's 6 p.m. game, while the Warriors will face SCAD Savannah tomorow at 2 p.m.
St. Thomas scored early on against WIU starter Jesse Wiggington, taking a 2-0 lead after Giovanni Zayas' solo homer in the third. The Bobcats broke the game open in the fifth with a three-spot, pushing their lead to 5-0.
Webber International was unable to solve STU starter Danny Sanchez, stranding seven base runners in the game.
STU kept up their offensive pressure, scoring three runs in the seventh and eighth combined to obtain an 8-0 lead.
Sanchez went the complete nine innings, allowing three runs, all in the ninth.
