Upsets Continue as Royals Down Sand Sharks, 7-2
FT. MYERS, Fla. - Never in the three-year history of The Sun Conference Tournament has the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds met in an elimination game on day two. However, in 2012, that sreak will be broken as fifth-seeded Warner pulled an upset over No. 2 USCB in Tuesday's second game, sending the Sand Sharks to the elimination game against top-seeded Embry-Riddle tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.
Warner scored three runs in the bottom of the third off of TSC Pitcher of the Year Michael Heesch, and that would be enough as Aaron Kehres held the Sand Sharks to just two runs on four hits in his first postseason start of 2012.
USCB cut the lead to 3-2 in the visitor-half of the fifth, but Warner added a single run in each of the next four frames to come away with the 7-2 victory. The Royals recorded 12 hits, including four doubles and a triple en route to their first win over USCB this season. The Sand Sharks managed to collect just five hits off of Kehres and reliever James Krupa.
Heesch was tagged with the loss, his second of the year, while Kehres won his ninth contest of the 2012 season.
Ethan Lovell went 2-for-4 for WU, plating two runs and scored a pair more for the Royals.
The Sand Sharks and Eagles will meet tomorrow morning at 10 a.m., while Warner moves on to Game 6 tomorrow night against the winner of tonight's game between St. Thomas and Webber International/
