BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – The Webber International men’s golf team made program history as Connor O’Dell, Jens Johansson, Tom Gamble, W. Greg Gentry and Greg Hughes combined to capture the 2012 men’s golf Sun Conference tournament title, Tuesday at the Southern Hills Plantation Club. The title was the first for the Warriors since the league moved to its current format.

The 15th-ranked Warriors, whose two-round total of 601 (296-305) was only one-stroke behind last year’s champion South Carolina Beaufort after the first day of play, carded a 297 in the final to finish with a three-round total of 898.

O’Dell (73-73-75) and Johansson (72-73-76) posted identical scores of 221 to pace the Warriors and finished in a three-way tie for second along with USCB’s Jack Bingham.

St. Thomas, led by Omar Tejeira who fired a 215 (72-73-70) to take individual medalist honors, also moved up one spot with a score of 907 (305-305-299) to take second place, just three strokes ahead of Johnson and Wales who carded the lowest score of the third round of 294 on the way to a 910 (305-312-294) total.

Sixth-ranked USCB settled into fourth with a 918 (294-306-318), followed by No. 22 Northwood (319-295-307=921), Southeastern (310-315-298=923), Embry-Riddle (310-310-308=928), No. 13 SCAD Savannah (313-314-316=943) and Warner (322-330-329=981).

Tejeira also headlined the All-Conference team as he was named the league’s Player of the Year. St. Thomas and Johnson & Wales led all schools with three All-Conference honorees each.

With the win, Webber International has secured an automatic bid to the 61st annual NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship, May 22-25 at the Creekside Country Club in Salem, Ore.
