St. Thomas Advances to Championship with Win Over Bees
FT. MYERS, Fla. - The St. Thomas Bobcats are getting used to playing in the championship of The Sun Conference Baseball Tournament. The Bobcats advanced to their third consecutive title game with a 4-1 win over SCAD Savannah in Thursday's morning game, sending the Bees to the loser's bracket. STU will play the winner of tonight's contest at 11 a.m. tomorrow. SCAD takes on the winner of today's 2 p.m. contest between Warner and Embry-Riddle.
Emilio Ogando improved to 6-0 with his dominating performance over the Bees. SCAD was only able to collect five hits and one run against the freshman left-hander, before Dane Stone entered in the ninth to save his 15th game of the 2012 season.
Will Cioffi gave SCAD a 1-0 lead in the fourth with a solo home run over the wall in left-center field, but the lead was short-lived as STU scored two runs on Elio Rey's single in the bottom of the frame, pushing STU to a 2-1 advantage.
Mick Waterhouse, SCAD's starter, did his best to keep the Bees in the game, but St. Thomas scored twice more in the home-half of the seventh to give their starter a 4-1 cushion, one that he would never relinquish.
