Royals Blank Bees 5-0
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The third-seeded Royals men’s tennis team closed out the first day’s play at the 2013 Sun Conference tournament with a 5-0 win over No. 6 SCAD Savannah (3-9). The Royals (11-7) will take on No. 2 Northwood in tomorrow’s second semifinal slated for 4:30 p.m.
Doubles play saw Warner take a 2-0 lead with win at the top two spots. At No. 3 doubles, Juan Espinel and Diogo Barros worked a 7-4 lead over SCAD Pete Yellico and Manatse Mazimbe. The SCAD pair fought back to tie the score at 7-7, but the Warner tandem held serve and broke to win the match and give the Royals a 3-0 lead.
At No. 4 singles, Juan Espinel blanked Theo Gough 6-0, 6-0 and, one court over, his teammate Vitor Schepper bested Alexis Roberts 6-2, 6-2 to score the clincher.
