Webber International Holds Off St. Thomas 5-3
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Fourth-seeded Webber International secured a spot in the semifinals of the 2013 Sun Conference Men’s Tennis Championship with a 5-3 win over No. 5 St. Thomas, Friday at the Crotty Tennis Complex on the campus of Embry-Riddle University. The Warriors improved their overall record to 11-11 and will face top seed Embry-Riddle in semifinal action at 2 p.m. on Saturday. WIU got a 2-1 lead after winning at the first and third doubles positions. In singles, Alwin Leysner got a quick 6-0, 6-1 win over Grover Ordonez on court three and Omar Quesada bested Arturo Romero 6-2, 6-2 on court five to extend the Webber International lead to 4-1. The Bobcats pulled within one courtesy of wins at the No. 1 and No. 6 spots, but Jonathan Cohen bounced back from a first set loss against an ailing Juan Bravo to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 and clinch the match for the Warriors.
