SCAD Savannah Tops Ave Maria 5-0 in TSC Semis
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – The fourth-ranked SCAD Savannah women’s tennis team secured a spot in The Sun Conference tournament title match, after they downed fifth-seeded Ave Maria, Saturday at Embry-Riddle’s Crotty Tennis Complex. The Bees improved their overall record to 10-2 on the year and will play the winner of the Embry-Riddle/Northwood semifinal in the title match at 9 a.m.
With the threat of rain in the area, both sides agreed to play the singles matches first, rather than the traditional doubles-first format. Daniela Arcila was the first to register a point for the Bees as she downed Jackie Ruiz 6-1, 6-1. Theresa Schmaus followed with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Heather Esker at the top spot and Maria Barragan made it 3-0 in favor of the Bees with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Lexie Hammerquist on court three.
