2013 Sun Conference Baseball Gold Glove Team Announced
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Sun Conference office has released the 2013 Gold Glove team for baseball following the 2013 Sun Conference regular season and tournament. All nine student-athletes will move on to the NAIA Gold Glove national ballot.
1B - Bryan Muniz, Southeastern (Sophomore - Hialeah, Fla.)
As a sophomore, Muniz was nearly perfect at first base, committing just one error in 494 chances. The Fire sophomore ranks first in the NAIA in chances (494) and total putouts (472) while recording 21 assists and participating in 36 double plays for a .998 fielding percentage.
2B - Ramon Sanchez, Webber International (Freshman - Orlando, Fla.)
Freshman Sanchez put forth a fantastic rookie campaign for the Warriors, earning first team All-Conference honors, as well as manning second base with a .941 fielding percentage. Sanchez recorded 125 putouts and 68 assists in 45 contests, teaming up for 15 double plays and catching four base on steal attempts.
3B - Brett White, Thomas (Senior - Citronelle, Ala.)
With a .941 fielding percentage at the hot corner, White earned the conference's Gold Glove honor at third base. White assisted on 109 putouts and made 68 of his own with 29 double plays.
SS - Alex Sanchez, Ave Maria (Senior - Hialeah, Fla.)
For the second consecutive year, the Gyrenes' Sanchez earns Gold Glove honors at short. Sanchez boasted a .945 fielding percentage with 171 assists, 89 putouts and 30 double plays. He ranks fifth in the country in total assists (171), and 20th in assists per game (3.1).
LF - Tucker Starkey, Ave Maria (Junior - Mayfield, Ky.)
Starkey was perfect in the outfield for Ave Maria, converting on all 99 attempts, recording 96 putouts and three assists for a 1.000 fielding percentage.
CF - Billy Farrell, Webber International (Senior - Seffner, Fla.)
As a senior, Farrell made only one error in center field, putting out 148 opponents and recording six outfield assists. With a .994 fielding percentage in 56 games, Farrell converted on 154 of 155 chances.
RF - Kevin Lindheim, Embry-Riddle (Junior - Naples, Fla.)
The Eagles' Lindheim made just one miscue in the outfield, throwing out eight runners, including four at the plate during 2013. Lindheim recorded 95 putouts and helped turn three double plays.
C - Conor Sullivan, Ave Maria (Sophomore - Chicago, Ill.)
Sullivan did the near-impossible as a sophomore, not committing an error behind the dish for the Gyrenes. He had 253 putouts and 48 assists while throwing out 20 runners trying to steal.
P - Stetson Nelson, Embry-Riddle (Sophomore - Leesburg, Fla.)
Nelson becomes the third straight Blue and Gold pitcher to earn conference Gold Glove honors. The Leesburg, Fla. native had a 1.000 fielding percentage on the mound with seven putouts and 23 assists, catching six runners and helping turn one double play.
