#1 Webber and #2 St. Thomas Advance to The Sun Conference Championship

BABSON PARK, Fla. – Game one of the semifinals in the Sun Conference tournament went to the #2 seed St. Thomas University with a defeat of #3 seed Warner University. St. Thomas took the first set 25-21. Warner took the second set 25-19, and then St. Thomas won the 3rd and 4th set 29-27 and 25-20. #2 St. Thomas University advances to The Sun Conference Championship game to be played tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. Game two of the semifinals in the Sun Conference Tournament went to the #1 seed Webber International University with the defeat of Keiser University. Kesier took the first set 25-18, then Webber would win the next three 25-17, 25-19, 25-10. Webber International University advances to The Sun Conference Championship game against St. Thomas.

Today’s game featuring the #2 St. Thomas Bobcats and the #3 Warner University Royals was everything that you hope a playoff game would be. Two good teams that battled back and forth, never giving up. The first set went to the Bobcats 25-21. The second set saw Warner tie it up 25-19, which eventually would be the biggest margin win in all four sets. The Bobcats would battle the Royals to a 29-27 win in the third set followed by a 25-20 victory in the fourth set.

The offensive leaders for Warner University were Adrienne Czaplewski who had an outstanding 28 kills with a .299 hitting percentage, and Angie Pagan-Perez who had 16 kills with a .233 hitting percentage. Defensively for the Royals, Thalia Mendez registered 17 digs.

The offensive leaders for the Bobcats were Whitney Battoe with 18 kills and an amazing .424 hitting percentage. Shanotta Bawek had the only double double of the game with 14 kills a .212 hitting percentage and 14 digs. Dana Nowaczyk put up 50 assists for the Bobcats, while defensively Kelli Kosydor registered 16 digs.

Game two saw the #1 seed Webber International University take on the #4 seed Keiser University. Webber came out on top as they took 3 out of 4 sets. The Keiser Seahawks came out looking like they may just fly away with the night with a powerful 25-18 win. But, the Webber Warriors were able to ground the Seahawks as they strung the next 3 sets together 25-17, 25-19, 25-10.

The offensive leader for the Seahawks was Nikki McKown, she had a double double with 14 kills and 10 digs. The defensive leaders for Keiser were Morgan Leff with 18 digs and Chantelle Zamora with 16 digs. Leading in assists was Nicole Papineau with 34 assists and 7 digs.

The offensive leaders for the Warriors were Nikki McDaniel with 21 kills and 7 digs. Tessa Colden registered a double double with 13 kills and 20 digs. Katie Schueman also had 11 kills with a .292 hitting percentage. Defensively Michelle Calderon led the way with 29 digs. Carlee Baxter put up 50 assists on the evening as well.

A true Sun Conference Tournament finish will happen tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. as the #1 Webber International University Warriors will take on the #2 St. Thomas University Bobcats in The Sun Conference Championship. The game will be held in the Sabbagh Athletic Center at Webber International University in Babson Park, Fla.
