SCAD Savannah Wins Women's Tennis Championship for Second Straight Year
KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. – Top seeded SCAD Savannah won The Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Championship Presented by Olympus Insurance with a 5-3 win over no. 2 seed Keiser Friday at the Crandon Park Tennis Center. It marked the second straight Sun Conference Women’s Tennis Championship for the Bees and their third title in the last four seasons.
SCAD Savannah ran out to a 2-1 lead in doubles competition led by an 8-5 win by the number one singles team of Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock over Teodora Stanciu and Lola Garcia on stadium court. Keiser won number two doubles as Ana Pinto and Juliana Gonclaves topped Julia Albuquerque and Karina Rovira 8-4. In number three singles, SCAD’s Daniella Arcile and Angie Dahnous teamed for an 8-2 win over Laura Ortega and Livia Toth.
Keiser won two singles matches to close SCAD Savannah’s lead to 4-3 as Ana Pinto defeated Paige Murdock 6-1, 6-0 in number two singles and Teodora Stanciu won over Angie Dahnous 6-3, 6-3 in number five singles.
With the score 4-3, Korina Rivera won the championship-clinching match with a 6-0, 7-5 victory over Juliana Gonclaves.
The Sun Conference Championship was held at The Tennis Center at Crandon Park, the home of the Miami Open, on beautiful Key Biscayne, Fla., for the first time in conference history
