DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior Jan Hoekzema was tabbed as The Sun Conference’s first men’s tennis Player of the Week of 2011 after leading Embry- Riddle to a 2-0 record during the week ending Feb. 13. Against NCAA II St. Leo, Hoekzema teamed up with Patrick Besch for an 8-6 win in doubles, playing at the No. 21 doubles spot. Playing at No. 3 singles, he downed the Lions’ Pablo Chavez 6-2, 6-2 to clinch the Eagles’ 7-2 win.
After he and Besch topped Warner’s Amar Vora and Julian Ramirez 8-5 in doubles, Hoekzema scored his second clincher of the year with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of Fabio Ribak to help ERAU to 9-0 victory and the first conference win of the year.
