DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ave Maria junior Sandy Jenkins was a unanimous pick for Sun Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week on Monday, Feb. 21. Jenkins averaged 16.5 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and two steals to lead the Gyrenes to a 2-0 record on the week.
Against Florida Memorial, Jenkins posted a double-double with 18 points, 13 rebounds to go with two steals. She was 7-of-12 from the field and a perfect 4-of-4 from the free throw line as the Gyrenes downed the Lions 79-62. A few nights later, she turned in a 15-point, nine-rebound, six-block performance to help Ave Maria secure second place in The Sun Conference regular season standings with a 77-67 defeat of St. Thomas.
