DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Masse Doumbe was selected as the first Sun Conference men’s basketball Player of the Week of 2012 on Jan. 9. Doumbe, a junior from Lannion, France, led top-ranked Northwood to four wins on the week averaging 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 2.3 steals.
Doumbe began the week with a 24-point, eight-rebound outing in the Seahawks' 113-73 defeat of Truett-McConnell and followed with 18 points, four rebounds, three blocks and four steals in a 96-72 win over UMass-Dartmouth. Against NAIA No. 22 St Xavier, the 6-8 forward set a new Northwood single-game scoring record, tallying 38 points to go with 14 rebounds and four steals on 13-of-20 shooting from the field and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line as the Seahawks topped the Cougars 102-78. Doumbe played just 14 minutes against Haskell, contributing 10 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.
