DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle senior Chris Freeman (Costa Mesa, Calif.) garnered the first Sun Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week honor of 2013 on Feb. 11. Freeman played at the top singles spot in both of the Eagles’ matches, leading his team to a pair of wins during the week ending Feb. 10.
Against NCAA II No. 22 Florida Southern, Freeman teamed up with J.R. Leonik for an 8-4 win over Emanuel Lueber and Benoit Paradis at the top doubles spot. He then topped NCAA II 34th-ranked Lueber 6-3, 7-5 in singles as the Eagles topped FSC 9-0. Freeman and Leonik played at No. 2 doubles against NCAA II No. 13 Valdosta State and downed Sebastian Javsyk and Tammo Haake 8-1. He then pulled out a tough three-set win in singles, holding off 11th-ranked Konstantin Kutschenko 1-6, 7-6 (3), 13-11 to lead ERAU to an 8-1 victory over the Blazers.
