DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Justyn Watkins becomes the first Night Hawk men's basketball player to earn Sun Conference Player of the Week honors as announced by the league office on Monday.
The senior forward from Orlando, Fla. helped lead TU to their first win over a top 25 opponent since the program was restarted, when he scored 31 points in a 96-74 dismantling of No. 6 Embry Riddle. Watkins shot 78.6% (11-14) from the field, including 60% (3-5) from behind the arc. He followed up his performance against ERAU by dropping 37 points in a heart-breaking one point loss to Ave Maria. Watkins shot 58.8 (10-17) from the field and 57.1 (4-7) from downtown, accounting for more than 50% of the Night Hawks total points. He also collected 2 steals on the night. Watkins now leads the Night Hawks in scoring with a 24.35 average. Saturday was his ninth game this season with over 30 points.
