DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Jessy Scarpone of SCAD Savannah has been named The Sun Conference Track Athlete of the Week. Scarpone was selected by the league's sports information directors.
Sophomore Scarpone posted an NAIA automatic qualifying time in the 10,000m run on Friday at the Raleigh Relays. Scarpone came through the 5K in 18:02 and repeated the mark, her finishing time of 36:04 was almost 1:30 under the NAIA's "A" standard mark. In addition to the automatic qualification for nationals, Scarpone broke the former SCAD school record by 59 seconds and she is currently ranked second in the 10K and fifth in the 5K in the NAIA.
