DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Loronza Smith of Warner University has been named the first Sun Conference Defensive Player of the Week in the 2014 football season.

Smith, a sophomore linebacker, had a huge day for the Royals in the first-ever Sun Conference football game on Saturday. Smith totaled 13.5 total tackles including 2.5 tackles for loss. He also recorded 1.5 sacks against the Royals' biggest rivals Webber International. Trailing 10-0 in the fourth quarter, Smith forced a Webber fumble inside the 10 yard line sparking the Royals' comeback in a 14-10 victory. Through two games this season, Smith leads the conference with 16 tackles/game and 2.5 sacks. He also ranks third in the country with his 16 tackles/game and is fifth in tackles for loss.
