BLUFFTON, S.C. — Southeastern's Carlie Newman is this week's Sun Conference Player of the Week for women's basketball as selected by the league's sports information directors. It's the second weekly honor for Newman in 2014-15.
Newman, a 5-foot-9 junior guard from Niles, Mich., had an outstanding week in three conference games, averaging 19.7 points and 11.3 rebounds while shooting 61.3 percent from the field and 14-of-22 from 3-point range.
She led the Fire with 17 points in a three-point loss to Webber International on Tuesday, including a 3-pointer to send the game to overtime. Newman put up a season-high 27 points in a victory over Florida Memorial on Thursday and recorded her first double-double of the season with 15 points and 16 rebounds in Saturday's victory over Embry-Riddle.
