DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.- Sophomore guard Dakota Whitney of Savannah College of Art and Design, received the honor of becoming the Florida Sun Conference’s first Player of the Week for the 2005-2006 women’s basketball season conference officials announced today.

Whitney scored 11 points, hauled down six boards and registered four steals in a 63-51 victory over Southern Polytechnic State. Against Milligan (Tenn.), the sophomore guard had 18 points and was 13-for-13 from the free throw line in the 68-56 loss.

The Bees are currently 1-1 under first-year head coach Stephany Raines, and will next take the court against Savannah State University Nov.15 in a 7 p.m. exhibition game.
