DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior left-hander Brian Letko became the second Embry-Riddle baseball player to be receive 2006 Florida Sun Conference Pitcher of the Week honors, league officials announced on Tuesday.
A native of Moreno Valley, Calif., Letko earned back-to-back wins in the Eagles’ doubleheader sweep of conference foe Northwood on Saturday. He tossed a total of six innings of shutout ball and combined for six strikeouts and scattered four hits in six innings of relief.
In game one, Letko came out of the bullpen in the seventh inning, struck out two and did not allow a baserunner in the final frame to pick up the win. He entered the second game with a bases-loaded, no-out situation in the first inning and yielded an RBI single before shutting out the Seahawks over the next 4.2 innings to improve to 5-0 on the year.
