DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Senior outfielder Derrick Pyles earned his second Florida Sun Conference Player of the Week honor of 2006 after leading the Embry-Riddle baseball team to a 3-1 record last week. Pyles was the Eagles’ leading hitter on the week, batting .643 (9-for-14) with a 1.071 slugging percentage, three doubles, a home run, six RBI and two stolen bases. The Temecula, Calif. native had at least one hit in each of the Eagles’ four contests and extended his hitting streak to 15 games.
Pyles began the week with a one-for-three performance in an 11-8 loss to NCAA II opponent Rollins. He had a double, an RBI and two walks and advanced safely on his only stolen base attempt of the game.
In the three-game series against seventh-ranked Warner Southern, Pyles posted three multiple-hit performances. He went three-for-five with a double and an RBI to lead ERAU to a 7-3 victory in Friday’s game and was two-for-three in a 10-0 Eagle victory in game one of Saturday’s doubleheader. Pyles, who is second on the team in triples, was robbed of the opportunity to hit for the cycle in the second game of the twin bill when he was intentionally walked on his fourth trip to the plate after recording a single, a double and his fourth home run of the year.
Pyles is batting a team-high .432 on the year and leads the club in RBI (47) and total bases (113)
