PORT ORANGE, Fla. -- Warner Southern College's Curtis Alford became the first-ever Florida Sun Conference Men's Golf Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 11th, conference officials announced today.
The award was instituted after approval by the FSC Sports Information Directors over the summer and will be awarded each week for both a men's and women's golfer during the traditional spring golf schedule.
Alford, who has one of the top scoring averages in the conference at 73.5, has had quite a first semester for a freshman. He claimed fourth in his first tournament Jan. 21-22 at the Royal Winter
Invitational (79-71-74=224), then took a second-place at the Webber International Triangular
firing an even-par 72 on January 29th. He finished tied for sixth among 48 golfers at the 3rd Annual Start 2 Finish Invitational at the par-72, 6,489-yard Lake Wales Country Club, setting a new Royals' record with his 3-over-par 219 total (72-73-74=219).
