DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Junior submarine style pitcher, Aaron Varnum was named the Florida Sun Conference Pitcher of the week after aiding Embry-Riddle from the mound in late innings, collecting a win and two saves on the week.

On Thursday, Varnum entered the Eagles' game against Missouri Baptist in the tenth inning after the team tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. He struck out two batters and picked up the win, in the tight 9-8 competition. Varnum also had two saves, both on Saturday, increasing his season total to seven. He currently ranks number one in the NAIA among 2008 pitchers for saves collected.

For the week, the Texas native struck out four of the 12 batters he faced, ending Saturday by catching a St. Xavier batter looking at an off-speed pitch.
