DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle sophomore Jan Hoekzema was selected as The Sun Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 22, league officials announced on Monday. Hoekzema posted a 1-1 singles record and was 2-0 in doubles as the Eagles finished the week 1-1.
On Friday, Hoekzema teamed up with Carlos Bes Comeras to defeat Rafael Array and Tim Johannsen from defending NCAA II national champion Armstrong Atlantic State, 8-6. In singles, he took Edualdo Bonet, the top-ranked player in NCAA II to three sets before falling 0-6. 6-3, 3-6.
On Saturday, Hoekzema and Bes Comeras topped the Savannah College of Art and Design tandem of Jan Menzen and Dumitru Chiriacov 8-6 and downed Felix Missal 6-2, 6-1 to help the Eagles to a 6-3 win over the Bees.
