DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Ave Maria freshman Emily Huber was tabbed as The Sun Conference women’s basketball Player of the Week after leading the Gyrenes to a 2-0 record during the week ending Jan. 31. The Indianapolis, Ind. native averaged 13.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 6.5 assists on the week, shooting 36 percent from the field and 82 percent from the free throw line.
Huber played 35 minutes against NCAA II Palm Beach Atlantic and totaled 12 points, five rebounds and nine assists to lead the Gyrenes past the Sailfish, 70-53.
Two days later, Huber scored 15 points and grabbed six boards to help Ave Maria rebound from a 17-point deficit in the first half to down conference opponent Warner 67-63. In addition to handing out four assists and registering a block, she was 7-of-9 from the free throw line, including a 4-for-4 clip in the final minute of play.
