DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Embry-Riddle senior Alexis Heugas earned his third Sun Conference Player of the Week of the season after going undefeated during the week ending Apr. 3. The freshman won singles and three doubles matches to help the Eagles to a 14-4 overall record and their seventh straight conference regular season title.
Hueugas improved his record at No. 1 singles to 4-0 with a 6-3, 7-6 win over 11th-ranked Caio Claudino of No. 17 Lindenwood on Tuesday. In that match, he partnered with Jan Hoekzema for an 8-2 doubles win over Gauthier Schilling and Otavio Costa. Against Northwood, Hoekzema and Heugas downed Eddie Elliot and Andreas Parschau 8-2 to help the Eagles secure the conference title with a 9-0 victory over the Seahawks.
Heugas closed out the week with wins in doubles and singles action against NCAA Division II No. 4 Lynn on the road. Heugas and Hoekzema defeated the Fighting Knights’ Willi Wolfer and Alessandro Sarra 8-5 and Huegas notched the Eagles’ only singles win with a 6-4, 6-4 decision against 19th-ranked Tomas Racak.
