DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Florida Sun Conference commissioner Rob Miller, has announced the University of South Carolina at Beaufort as the league’s newest member. The Sand Sharks will begin competition in the FSC as an associate member in the fall of 2008.

The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics officially accepted USCB as a member of the NAIA at its national meeting in March 2007. The newly-formed Sand Shark athletic program currently sponsors men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s cross-country, baseball, and men’s and women’s track with a view to sponsoring additional programs in the future.

"The FSC is excited to have USCB join as an associate member, where they will compete for conference championships in the seven sports they sponsor,” Miller stated. “We believe we have brought a member into the league that makes us a better conference right now.  They are committed to doing things right.  We look forward to working with them as they develop their athletic program and became full members of the FSC."

The Sand Sharks are no strangers to the Florida Sun Conference as they have gone up against a number of league institutions in competition in the last 12 months.

“The University of South Carolina Beaufort is excited and honored to be accepted into the Florida Sun Conference,” USCB Athletic Director Kim Abbott said. “Even prior to becoming actual members of the NAIA in March of 2007, we were meeting people in FSC and have been impressed with the leadership and mission of its member institutions.  We knew that the Florida Sun Conference was a place we wanted to call “home”.

“The FSC is making changes that are strengthening the conference,” Abbott continued. “We will work hard to be active, diligent, and upstanding members of the FSC, with goals consistent with the mission of the NAIA while producing great teams and graduating students. We look forward to a long, challenging and successful membership in the Florida Sun Conference.”
