Royals Finish Sweep of Edward Waters

BABSON PARK, Fla.- The Warner Southern baseball team defeated Edward Waters College 10-3 on Friday April 25. The Royals have an overall record of 32-21 and secure second place of the Florida Sun Conference with a record of 14-7.

The game started in Jacksonville, Fla. at Edward Waters’ home field when the game was postponed due to lightning. When the game was called, the Royals were leading by a score of 6-2 in the bottom half of the fourth inning.

The game resumed play in Babson Park, Fla. at Webber International’s home field since Edward Waters had a rescheduled game with the Warriors as well.

The starting pitcher for the Royals (in Jacksonville) was John Durham. He pitched three innings with four strikeouts, allowing six hits and one walk. The Royals brought in relief (in Babson Park) Ben Shockey to finish the game. Shockey threw four innings with six strikeouts, one walk, and four hits.

Nico Vazquez, Dave Murray, Nick Polston and Brad Menadier each had two hits in the game. Murray led the team in RBIs with three in the game. Shane Ynclan had two RBIs with his two-run homerun in the seventh inning.

Edward Waters had three players with two hits: Mo Turnkett, Bryan Joseph and Tyler Parrott. Bennie Garner and Ron Gill each drove in a run for the Tigers.

The Royals will play a double-header consisting of two seven inning games against Palm Beach Atlantic University on Saturday April 26, with the first game starting at 1 p.m. The Tigers will be in action on Saturday as well, finishing their postponed game against Webber International.
