JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Sun Conference office announced the 14 individuals who were named to the 2009 Women’s Basketball All-Conference team at the Final Four brunch on Friday. Topping the list of honorees were St. Thomas head coach Robin Harmony and Florida Memorial’s Kiesha Alexander, who took home Coach and Player of the Year honors, respectively.

Harmony capped off her second season at the helm of the St. Thomas basketball program by leading the Bobcats to their first ever regular season title.  The Bobcats finished tied with Northwood for first in the league standings at 10-2, but they bested the Seahawks in both meetings during the regular season to earn the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

A junior from Chicago, Ill., Alexander was the league’s scoring leader, averaging 16.5 points per game, and ranked among the top five in the league in rebounds (2nd, 9.8), steals (2nd, 2.9) and double-doubles (3rd, 11).

Savannah College of Art and Design sophomore Janay Wilson was tabbed as the Defensive Player of the Year and the Champion of Character Award winner.  Wilson averaged a league-best 3.5 assists per game and ranked eighth in the nation in assists (92) while averaging 11 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.  She has volunteered for the Down Syndrome Buddy Walk in Savannah and has been involved in reading programs at local elementary schools and college outreach missions while maintaining a 3.8 GPA in Interior Design.

Freshman of the Year honors went to St. Thomas’ Dominique Collier who was named the league Player of the Week three times and averaged 14.4 points, 9.4 boards and 2.4 steals per game.
