Helen Lynskey Tallied 6 points on the day
No. 23 Women's Soccer Topples No. 11 Embry Riddle
WEST PALM BEACH, Fl. – The No. 23 Northwood University Women's Soccer Team (13-3, 8-0 TSC) took down No. 11 Embry Riddle (11-2-2, 4-1-2 TSC) 6-3 in an explosive match late Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Eagles struck quickly after the blow of the whistle, netting their first goal in the first 1:32 of the game off a right cross from Krizzy Menez to Valerie Obita, who put in her 15th goal of the season.
Northwood would answer with not one but three goals before the end of the half. Helen Lynskey evened the score at 1 in the 12th minute on a Maria Tornqvist cross. Lynskey struck again 10 minutes later on a touch from Annika Hogberg. The two goals were Lynskey's 16th and 17th of the season.
Embry Riddle came out of halftime fired up, scoring two goals to even the score at 3 in the 50th and 52nd minutes of the game. Unfortunately for the Lady Eagles, that would be the last time they would tally a point on the scoreboard. The Lady Seahawks answered with another three goals of their own, to finish the game 6-3.
Today's victory locked Northwood in as regular season conference champions, their fifth regular season conference title in as many years. Last year, Northwood shared their title with Embry Riddle.
"We are so very proud of our Lady Seahawks," Head Coach Ty Brewer said after the game. "Coach Dunny and I set high standards for the year and the ladies were up for it. Five regular season titles is incredible for any program, especially in this strong conference. Now we need to prepare for our conference tournament as the regular season comes to a close."
Northwood Women's Soccer will close out the regular season on Wednesday as they take on Johnson and Wales at 1 PM on the campus of Northwood University.
