Embry-Riddle's Goolsby and Kountis Drafted in Major League Baseball Draft

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - Two Embry-Riddle Eagle baseball players were chosen on day two of the Major League Baseball Draft. Seniors Austin Goolsby and Jonathan Kountis were chosen by the Baltimore Orioles and New York Mets respectively.

Kountis, a 6-3, 225 lb. right-handed pitcher from Akron, Ohio was the 572nd pick overall as he was taken in the 19th round. Kountis was 7-4 for the Eagles this season, pitching 88.0 innings while striking out 90 opponents. Kountis was a two-time NAIA All-American at Ohio Dominican before transferring to Embry-Riddle for his senior season.

Goolsby is a 6-2, 185 lb. catcher from Coppell, Texas. He came to Embry-Riddle after two years at NCAA DI University of Houston. Goolsby was the 778th overall pick and the third pick in the 26th round. The senior was The Sun Conference Player of the Year as well as being a first-team all-conference performer. Goolsby was named the 2010 Rawlings-NAIA Gold Glove winner for the catcher position during his last season in an ERAU uniform. Goolsby hit .319 for the Blue and Gold in 2010, pounding 74 hits, including 18 doubles and 13 home runs.
