Northwood defeats Florida Memorial in Semifinal Round

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The #1 Northwood University Seahawks (30-2, 16-0 TSC) tamed the Lions of Florida Memorial (14-17, 8-8 TSC) 72-61 in the semi-final round of the Men’s Basketball Final Four.

Florida Memorial went stride for stride with the Seahawks in the first half. Both teams exchanged the lead 4 times during the initial 20 minutes. Northwood held the lead for the majority of the period but were never able to shake Flo Mo by more than 5 points.

Northwood shot 50% that half, and had big performances from seniors Courtney Walters and Melvin Calhoun, who accounted for 19 of the Seahawk’s 33 points to that point. Florida Memorials’ attack was far more diverse with Roderick Davis, Felix Borger, and Matthew Rolle who each put up 6 points.

Seahawk Coach Rollie Massimino rallied his team during the half and saw the blue and white go on a 15-6 run in the opening 7 minutes of the second half. The rally proved too much for the Lions to overcome as the Seahawks coasted to 72-61 victory.

Northwood’s Walters led all scorers with 16 points and also tallied 7 rebounds. Dunn and Calhoun each tabbed 13 points while Patrick Horstmann had a game high 13 rebounds.

In his final game as a Lion, Davis shared a team high 13 points with Rolle.

After Embry Riddle’s defeat of Warner earlier in the day, the championship game is now set for the 1 seed Seahawks to take on the 2 seed Eagles. Game time will be at 7 PM and be held at Northwood University.
